M.S. Kinesiology Curriculum & Courses
The Master of Science in Kinesiology degree is 36 credit hours, typically completed over four semesters.
In our courses, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of physiology, physical education, sports medicine, biomechanics, and the latest research in kinesiology. The concentration you choose will determine which specific courses you take.
Thesis or Non-Thesis Options
Thesis option: The thesis option is for students who want to pursue a career in kinesiology research or academia. The thesis option includes:
- 12 hours of graduate core courses
- 9 hours in concentration area
- 9 hours guided electives
- 6 hours thesis work
Non-thesis option: This option is for students who want to pursue a career in kinesiology practice. The non-thesis option includes:
- 12 hours of graduate core courses
- 9 hours in concentration area
- 6 hours guided electives

9 hours of research-related Special Projects (i.e., KNES 597 or KNES 598; 3 hours) and an Internship (KNES 600 3 - 9 hours).
- Students in the Health Promotion, Recreation, and Sports Management concentration may elect to take the internship for up to nine hours.
